Introducing an evidence-based fall risk management and prevention program for older adults

One in three adults aged 65 and older falls each year. And 20% to 30% of those individuals suffer injuries that make mobility difficult, limit independence and increase risk of early death.*

To help patients and residents decrease their risk of falls, Genesis Rehab services developed Balance In Action® (BIA), an evidence-based approach for older adults at all levels of function in any care setting. This comprehensive care delivery model is grounded in the latest falls management and prevention research, and is based on current guidelines from the American Geriatrics Society and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Balance In Action is part of the foundation of our overall care delivery model.  
When you partner with us as your rehab provider, you will receive these foundational elements of Balance In Action:

  • Evidence-based screening, assessment, and intervention plans for your patients and residents. For some, this may include an individualized strength and balance exercise regimen based on the Otago Exercise Programme.
  • The most up-to-date education and training on falls management and prevention for your center’s clinical staff and administration.
  • Communication and collaboration with your center’s clinical staff and administration in order to effectively manage the fall risk of your patients and residents over time and across the continuum of care.

Balance In Action requires an active partnership between Genesis Rehab Services , your center’s clinical staff, and your center’s administration. Your residents don’t have to be on rehab caseload in order to benefit from our care delivery model. Using a multidisciplinary approach with the entire care team, the goals of Balance in Action are to prevent and decrease falls in your center, reduce the rate of injury due to falls, and lower your overall costs related to falls.
