Disparity exists between perceived and real knowledge of speech language pathologists (SLPs) regarding tracheostomy and mechanical ventilation (Baker-Rush, 2016).  Discrepancy and lack of awareness of these limitations may compound risks for negative patient outcomes and create ethical/regulatory concerns per ASHA's Code of Ethics.  Following dynamic instruction of foundational knowledge and ethics, participants will engage in developing critical thinking skills and formulating a personal action plan toward increasing knowledge and skills in this area.
