GRS participates in Therapy Outcome Measures Workgroup
Pilot results officially endorsed by the National Quality Forum

Genesis Rehab Services (GRS) was one of five industry-leading organizations that participated in a large therapy outcome measures research/pilot endeavor with the National Association for the Support of Long Term Care (NASL) and American Health Care Association (AHCA).

Felicia Chew, Vice President – Clinical Services, and Mike Morris, Director – Clinical Outcomes, both represented GRS as members of the NASL/AHCA Therapy Outcome Measures Workgroup. This workgroup piloted simultaneous collection of outcome measures to determine the validity of measures and reliability of scoring with self-care and mobility items of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Continuity Assessment Record and Evaluation (CARE) tool.

In addition, approximately 400 GRS therapists from 25 centers participated in data collection, which captured Modified Barthel Index (MBI) scores, CARE tool items, and Minimum Data Set (MDS) scores of patients at both admission and discharge.

On July 28, 2015, NASL and AHCA announced that the workgroup’s self-care and mobility measures were officially endorsed by the National Quality Forum.  This is a tremendous accomplishment that is the culmination of 2 years of work and industry-wide collaboration.

At the conclusion of the pilot, NASL and AHCA acknowledged GRS staff for their thoroughness and use of both the MBI and the CARE tool.
